Special Gathering on Social Graces
I recently learned about the term “Social Graces”. I literally became fascinated by the combination of words alone that I knew that I had to go deeper into the meaning and what it represents. At first, I thought “Wow” this would be a really cool name for an event! That’s my honest truth. However, after researching and studying the origins of this beautiful combination of words, I knew that it was so much more powerful than the title or brand for my next event.
So let me start by sharing the definition of “Social Graces”: Social graces are skills used to interact politely in social situations. They include manners, etiquette (the specific accepted rules within a culture for the application of universal manners), deportment and fashion. These skills were once taught to young women at a finishing school or charm school. The focus of social graces has changed over the last century, recently with an emphasis on business etiquette and international protocol. Source – Answers.com
After reflecting, what came up for me is that many of the people who are reading my vlog know that our chosen path is to help and advocate for those in need. True?
The little seed of knowledge here is that we must remember to exercise and demonstrate Social Grace in planning and executing events. Let’s not forget to be intentional by including and inviting the people and community that we are seeking to assist; the very reason and purpose of the occasion. Together, we can put “Social Graces” into action. Let’s begin with adopting a movement to apply “Social Grace”, as our universal manner and protocol in planning events and fundraisers. We have to be mindful to include the community of people that our event’s mission is charged with helping to create change in their lives. In doing so, your next event will be even more inspiring and motivational because your attendees and donors will be able to connect more deeply with the work of your organization and your mission. The people and community, who is your mission, will become even more grateful, supportive, and open to the possibilities of authentic change taking place. Leading with “Social Grace” for your next event will connect all of the dots and strengthen your organizations purpose within your social networks and within your community.
Kudos! To all of the people and organization’s who apply this principal already, know that there is a word and protocol that exist for what you are doing.
Food for thought: Social Graces. What does it mean for you and/or your organization? How does having “Social Grace” help to improve your relationship and work in the community in which you serve? How are you able to better integrate the community of people in which you serve into the fabric and framework of your next event?
Until next time…. dani
